Modern Military receives VA Suicide Prevention Grant
Grant supports local suicide prevention efforts for veterans and their families

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2024) – Modern Military is thrilled to announce that we are one of 85 organizations across 41 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico to receive funding from the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. “We are deeply grateful to VA for recognizing the critical need for increased resources to address veteran suicide among the LGBTQ+ community. LGBTQ+ veterans, particularly transgender veterans, are more likely than their peers to experience suicidal ideation and behavior.  This funding will empower the organization to provide tailored programs and services that reach veterans in need and help save lives,” said Rachel Branaman, Modern Military’s executive director.

Through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP), Modern Military received $669,800 from VA to support its efforts helping local veterans in VISN 5: VA’s Capitol Health Care Network. This grant is part of VA’s National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide and the Biden-Harris Administration’s strategy to reduce military and Veteran suicide. Since 2021, VA has worked aggressively to expand support for Veterans in crisis, including offering no-cost emergency suicide prevention care, launching Dial 988 then Press 1 to streamline Veterans’ access to the Veterans Crisis Line, expanding firearm suicide prevention efforts, and more.
