Did you know that your gift to Modern Military may be eligible to be doubled or even tripled?
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match tax-deductible charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies even extend these matching benefits to gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
If your company provides matching gifts, request a matching gift form from your employer. Send the completed and signed form with your gift and we will handle the rest!
You can initiate a grant recommendation from your donor-advised fund – or DAF – directly to Modern Military in two easy ways:
- Create a recurring, monthly or quarterly gift. Initiating an automatic monthly or quarterly gift from your Donor Advised Fund is one of the easiest ways to support our work all year long.
- Create your legacy of helping the LGBTQ+ military and veteran communities. You can name Modern Military as a beneficiary of all or a portion of the funds remaining in your Donor Advised Fund after your lifetime.
When making your grant recommendation, please use the following information:

The gift of an appreciated asset is a powerful way to support Modern Military’s work. Your gift of securities will entitle you to a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize your tax returns. In the case of appreciated securities, you may deduct the full fair market value of your gift once you have held onto the securities for at least one year. In addition, you will avoid paying capital gains tax on all stock that you choose to donate to Modern Military.
- You can authorize your stock broker or your bank to complete the transfer process. Please instruct your broker or bank to speak with Modern Military’s executive director.
- If you hold the physical securities (stock certificates), you can directly mail the certificate(s) without any endorsement or assignment.
- Please enclose a letter stating the purpose of your gift (for example, “to benefit all of the programs of Modern Military”). In a separate envelope, please include a signed stock power form for each gift (available from your bank or broker). Please note that except for your signature exactly as your name appears on the stock certificate, the stock power form should be blank.
Transfer a Gift from Your IRA – Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). The Pension Protection Act of 2006 gives those at least 70½ years of age the opportunity to make tax-free charitable gifts from IRA funds, including the minimum required distribution. Please also consider making Modern Military Association of America a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan.
Non-probate assets—such as an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any additional accounts—need to be planned separately. Using an online tool, you can log all of your assets, name Modern Military Association of America as a beneficiary, and receive printable instructions on how to set each one with your broker.
We recommend that you consult your attorney or tax advisor about how tax benefits may apply to your specific situation. Please note that Modern Military cannot render tax or legal advice and we urge you to consult with your professional advisor about your situation before making a charitable gift.
