Join the Pro Bono Attorney Network to Assist Transgender Service Members
As a result of the President’s Executive Order and the subsequent guidance provided by the U.S. Department of Defense, transgender service members are facing adverse consequences, including immediate and ongoing harm from harassment, unlawful command influence, and discrimination resulting from preemptive compliance with the Executive Order.
As regulations are implemented, service members may need legal support and representation to navigate the complexities of the military justice system, including administrative action/separation, medical separation, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) (judicial and non-judicial punishment).
Modern Military is seeking to connect service members with pro bono counsel who are able to provide legal guidance and representation to individuals facing separation, administrative action, discipline, or any other adverse consequences as a result of their gender identity. Civilian pro bono counsel may work in collaboration with the service member’s uniformed defense counsel (TDS) to provide legal advice and guidance.
While experience and understanding of the military justice system is desired, it is not mandatory to join the network and assist service members.
