Modern Military is pleased to announce the promotion of Cathy Marcello to Deputy Director. Cathy joined Modern Military in 2022, bringing with her an impressive track record in LGBTQ+ advocacy and volunteer management. She has since become an invaluable member of the team.
Cathy initially served as MilPride Program Coordinator, later transitioning to MilPride Director and Assistant Director of Programs before becoming Deputy Director. With 13+ years of experience, Cathy has shown a deep commitment to navigating the complex landscape of medical care, education, state and federal law, and Department of Defense policy for military-affiliated LGBTQ+ youth. Her expertise has proven vital in helping countless families and individuals find their way through these intricate systems. Her dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment has been a driving force in the success of Modern Military’s programs.
With the dramatic increase in anti-equality legislation targeting LGBTQ+ youth in states with the most active duty troops, Cathy’s proficiency in this space will enable Modern Military to further expand its advocacy, programming, and awareness raising on behalf of military families. As Deputy Director, Cathy will continue to bring her passion, leadership, and advocacy skills to the forefront, ensuring that Modern Military remains a leading voice for LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive military service members, veterans, and their families.
