The Modern Military Association of America (MMAA) is the nation’s largest organization of LGBTQ service members, military spouses, veterans, their families and allies. Formed through the merger of the American Military Partner Association and OutServe-SLDN, we are a united voice for the LBGTQ military and veteran community.

As a non-partisan, non-profit (501c3) organization, we are working to make a real difference in the lives of our modern military families through education, advocacy and support. We also provide free, direct legal services for the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran communities.

Through our innovative programs focused on education, advocacy and support, MMAA is working to ensure LGBTQ service members, veterans and their families have the support and resources they need and deserve in service to our great country.

Our staff, volunteers and members have made incredible gains for the LGBTQ military and veteran community, but we now find ourselves in a challenging moment in our nation’s history. The Trump-Pence administration has rolled back critically important progress in the military and throughout the country in many ways — from bans on transgender military service and people living with HIV to removing protections for LGBTQ youth in schools.

MMAA currently has four high-profile lawsuits against the Trump-Pence administration challenging various discriminatory policies, but our work extends far beyond the courts as we work to support our modern military and veteran community.

Through our legal help desk, we assist members with discharge upgrades, legal name changes and discrimination. Through our Rainbow Shield certification program and other training, we equip military and veteran service providers with the skills they need to be culturally resilient in providing effective and efficient services to the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran community. Through our military spouse scholarship, we enable military spouses to pursue their higher education goals. And through our Chapter Network, we facilitate opportunities for fellowship, camaraderie and leadership development for individuals and families located across the country and around the world.

It doesn’t take much to make a difference. Get in touch today and join the fight for our modern military families.

Formed through the merger of the American Military Partner Association and OutServe-SLDN, MMAA is actually the result of decades of work for the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran community through four organizations, each focused on serving their respective community in different ways. These organizations are the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), the American Military Partner Association (AMPA), OutServe (OS), and the Military Partners and Families Coalition (MPFC).
